Bird Photography Tours within Tampa Bay's Estuary
One of the joys of photographing Florida's Wildlife is being able to share that unique experience with others. I am so pleased to offer Bird Photography Tours in the 2020 Breeding and Nesting Season. Come along with me, Captain Gwen, to an undisclosed National Wildlife Refuge within Tampa Bay's Estuary.
2019 Nesting & Mating Season
Whether you are an avid Avian Photographer or a novice, these tours are for you! There is nothing quite as beautiful, fascinating or thrilling than observing & photographing birds in their natural habitat displaying extraordinary mating rituals and preparing nests in the beginning of the season. Towards the end of the season, family antics in the nest are the best. During this season, all the birds will be donning full breeding colors and feathers. You won't believe your eyes!
This will be my third year photographing these birds at these undisclosed locations and I cannot wait to share them with you. You will be amazed at all the Species you will be able to see, including: Great Blue Herons, White Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Reddish Egrets, Reddish Egrets - White Morph, Tri-Colored Herons, Little Blue Herons, Green Herons, Ibis, Roseatte Spoonbills, Cormorants & Pelicans. You may see Night Herons, Cattle Egrets, Mating Doves, a King Fisher or two, and perhaps an Osprey (the Osprey & King Fisher do not nest at this location but occasionally make a visit. In addition to birds, you will be able to enjoy the sunrise, the sunset or both, depending on the trip(s) you choose.
In addition to being an avid bird and portrait photographer, I am also a USCG licensed Captain. I will be taking you to undisclosed location(s) by boat. There is only room for 4 photographers and your gear on each trip; this insures you will have plenty of room to move around.
All trips will depart from Maximo Park Boat Ramp in St. Petersburg, Florida. Parking is free and it is safe to leave your car while we are gone.
Equipment Note: I will be using a Canon 80D and a Sigma 150-600mm lens. Bring whatever camera and lens you are most comfortable with. I recommend you have at least 500mm capability. If you use a 400mm lens, you may want to purchase an extender before the trip. Also, DO NOT bring a lens that requires a tripod. You WILL NOT be able to shoot with a tripod, we will be shooting from the boat. You may also want to bring a landscape lens as the sunrise and sunsets are beautiful.
